LATEST STUDY SUGGESTS THAT COVID-19 PATIENTS WHO END UP ON VENTILATORS ARE EVENTUALLY DYING!
The total number of cases and toll deaths due to COVID-19 are on the verge leading to an increased number of patients admitted in the US hospitals. During March, the entire focus of the US government was much on the breathing machines i.e. ventilators which help in potential breathing for such patients and helps in saving the lives of the patients. President Donald Trump and New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo exchange blow regarding the number of ventilators they need and how much they are short of. US is considered as one of the leading countries in terms of COVID-19 cases due to which they are running out of ventilators. Covid-19 patients suffer from breathing difficulties in the later stages because of which they need a ventilator- a machine that helps in safe breathing in such patients who experience symptoms similar to pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. After five weeks of this epidemic in the US, a study was published in the JAMA journal regarding the largest healthcare system of New York State.
PROGNOSIS RATE FOR COVID-19 PATIENTS ON VENTILATORS:
The prognosis rate for COVID-19 patients appears doubtful for patients who are hooked up on ventilators. It is seen that around 88% of the people who are placed on the ventilators usually died at New York’s largest healthcare system known as north well Health as seen in the latest study. The study analysis was conducted on 5700 patients in total who were infected with COVID-19, out of which 2634 patients were hospitalized and the outcomes were seen for such patients. Out of these patients, 12% of people received invasive mechanical ventilation and overall 21% of patients passed away. This analysis came out as one of the most comprehensive and largest outcomes in the United States which got published so far.
NEW YORK- AN EPICENTRE FOR COVID-19:
Karina Davidson who is the senior vice president and professor at the Feinstein Institutes and served as a co-author for the study said that New York has turned out as the epicenter for this COVID-19 epidemic. He further explained that scientists, clinicians, laboratory professionals, and statisticians are working tirelessly all-round the day to provide ultimate care along with comfort to the thousands of COVID-19 patients who are admitted to our North well hospitals.

RISK FACTORS FOR COVID-19 PATIENTS:
A third of all such patients including the ones for whom the outcomes were still unknown suffered from a fever. 1584 such patients received supplemental oxygen and were eventually discharged after around four to five days. More than half of the patients i.e. around 57% had high blood pressure, 34% of the patients were diabetes and 41% of patients were obese. These risk factors appeared consistent with the ones listed by CDC i.e. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. However, it was noticeable that asthma was absent from the list. With the latest research and studies, it is understood that asthma does not play a critical role to suffer from COVID-19 and only 9 asthmatic patients were seen to suffer from the virus. Another surprising outcome that was seen in such patients was that around 30% of patients who were sick due to COIVD-19 did not have any signs and symptoms of fever which is listed as one of the major symptoms by CDC.

LATEST FINDINGS REGARDING COVID-19:
This latest study also confirmed that men during this study were more likely to suffer from death. It was also seen that during the entire research which was conducted on the population, it was seen that all the patients were above 18 years of age. It is therefore advised to people especially with underlying medical conditions that they should consult the doctor immediately without any further delay.
