A healthy diet is essential for your skin, your entire body as well as for the healthy mind. What you consume is far more important than what you apply over your skin. Avoid processed foods, pre-packaged foods or foods and drinks with excess sugar as they make your skin prone to acne, premature aging and loss of skin firmness. Eat healthy foods like tomatoes which are rich in antioxidants and prevent your skin against cancer. Consume mangoes which are rich in antioxidants and helps in skin protection by increasing the production of collagen fibers. Olive oil helps in lowering down the severe effects of photoaging on the face. It protects your skin against dark spots formation, wrinkles, skin discoloration, and others. Consume green tea as a healthy drink as it is rich in polyphenols which helps in rejuvenating the dead skin cells and promotes healing of wounds and skin conditions.
Prevent any moisture loss through the skin. Skin moisturizers are available in the market which keeps your skin hydrated and seals the moisture within the deeper layers of the skin. Moisturizers comprise of occlusive agents that help in retaining moisture, they have humectants that attract moisture along with the emollients which help in smoothing out space amongst the skin cells. Avoid using harsh soaps, abrasive brushes, washcloths or sponges that can strip away the oily layer of the skin and make your skin dry. Use warm water, take baths for 5-10 minutes, and use a humidifier in the room which helps in replenishing the skin moisture.
Avoid stressful situations as they can increase your chance to suffer from skin conditions like acne, itchy skin, rashes, and scaly skin. A research concluded that teenagers who were exposed to highly stressful situations were 23% at high risk to suffer from severe acne. Increased stress leads to increased production of sebum which ultimately results in blockage of pores leading to severe acne. You can reduce stress through meditation techniques like yoga, breathing techniques, tai chi and others which helps in reducing stress and ultimately leads to clearer skin.
Sleep well at night and take a good sleep for 7-8 hours as sleeping well at night removes all the dark spots from the skin, banishes the dark circles around eyes, maintains a healthy skin tone and serves best for clearer skin. Sleep deprivation not only results in a negative impact over the skin but also results in obesity, causes a weak immune system and leads to chronic medical conditions. Poor sleepers suffer from premature aging, reduced ability of the skin to repair and causes less skin regeneration at night. The body is unable to produce enough elastin and collagen if you don’t sleep well at night and lead to sagging.
Keep yourself hydrated at all times and drink 8-10 glasses of water each day. Drinking enough amounts of water is highly essential for clearer skin. Staying hydrated keeps your skin moisturized, it prevents the skin against premature signs of aging, maintains the firmness of the skin and offers a plump, glowing look to it.
