How to Remember Things ?
Do you forget the things in your daily routine? Are you unable to remember small things? Well, you might have heard of various remembering things but you are not able to use them as you may forget them too. These memory techniques can only work for you if you remember to use them in your daily routine as they become your habit. Only then you can make great use of these techniques to improve your memory and learn how to remember things.
Here is a story to let you know how it works.
It is a story of the times when I was a child. There was a game in which there was a table with 15 different items on it. After showing us that table they took us to a different room. We were given a paper and a pencil and were asked to write the names of all those things. I could remember only 7 or 8 of them while there was a child who remembered all 15 of them and won the prize.
Years later I recognized the reason why that child won. I came to know that his father taught him a different trick which we all were unaware of. The trick was to assemble all those things in your mind in an imaginative story. For example, what if you see soap, milk, honey, flowers, and a fork and want to remember all those things and make a story out of them.
You can make a story that includes all these things in a way that you remember all of them. It can be like you reach for the SOAP at the sink. The soap dish is full of MILK so you washed your hands with it. After that, you comb Honey into your hair with the help of a FORK. Then you picked up a bouquet of FLOWERS and went into the garden. You can also say their names while reviving that story in your mind and you will remember all their names even till next day.
Some other interesting memory tricks to try:
You need to tell yourself that you have to remember. Whenever you come to a new thing or a new name, keep telling yourself that you have to remember that. This practice will push your mind to remember the things you are telling it to remember.
You must know the reason why you want to remember anything and how can you remember it? For example, if you want to remember a person you need to know why he is important to you or where you are going to see him next time? You see it will really help to remember the person next time. And help you improve the memory and make it firm.
Does it ever happen that you forgot after putting the keys to your car somewhere? You have probably tried retracing all the steps and places you have been to in order to find your keys. It can really help but it’s better you do not forget your keys at first. When you have a fixed place of hanging the keys you better not forget them at all.
