There comes a point in everyone’s life when we feel that this is it. There cannot be anything else that can disappoint us more and we believe that this is the worst that has happened to us in our lifetime. And that is the worst feeling ever. You become emotionally and physically drained. Depression hits hard on us at that moment. No matter how cliche this line sounds that we should never lose hope, in the end, it is all that we have left. Broken things cannot be mended easily but they are worth a try. There are things we should strictly remember at times when we are on the verge of losing ourselves.
1) “Pain demands to be felt.”
Pain is something you cannot ignore. No matter, how tough a person you are it doesn’t leave you without making you appear a damsel in distress. All we have to do is to fight the pain with all of our might. If, and only if, you stand your ground will the pain go away otherwise not. It is a synonym to waging a war against yourself where we have to fight our inner demons. No one is going to do that for us.
2)”Time heals all wounds.”
Truly it does. But we do not know how much time it exactly takes. The decision is upon us. Whether we want to forget it and move on within the next few days or we have to bury it like a treasure in our hearts and sulk around the house for the rest of our lives. The choice is purely our own.
3)”God is always there for us.”
It is human nature that when he is all content he forgets that there is someone who is the reason for his happiness. We do not thank God for the thousands of blessings He gave us but even the slightest inconveniences make us running towards Him and complaining. We should remember that no matter how selfish we are He is always there for us. We may not remember Him always but He does, all the time.
4)”Future.”
It is depressing how emotional breakdowns make us stop thinking about our future. We forget that we have our whole lives ahead of us and that we have to do something useful with the rest of it instead of moping around and repeating the same mistakes over and over again because of which we got hurt in the first place. The thing is that we should try and man up a little.
5)”You can start fresh.”
If you feel like experiencing everything anew whenever you face those same people, places, and things, remember that the earth is 12,742km long. There surely must be a place on this vast land where you could go and hide from them. But remember that you cannot hide from your shadow. You can experience relapses of what you have faced before but try and do not let it get to you.
6)”Life is a series of ups and downs.”
As it is said, “Hope for the best but prepare for the worst”, so we should try to learn the dilemma of life. This is the science of life: it tests you at every possible turn. We should prepare ourselves best for her exams and learn to accept our failures and celebrate our triumph by staying modest.
As Cecelia Ahern says, “Life is funny isn’t it? Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, just when you finally begin to plan something, get excited about something, and feel like what direction you’re headed in, the paths change, the signs change, the wind blows the other way, north is suddenly south, and east is west, and you’re lost. It is so easy to lose your way, to lose direction.”.
At the end, this is exactly what life is and it is the one measuring our intelligence through how we cope with failures and depressive situations. It’s not what happened to us that matters, it’s our reaction that does!
