With the latest updates regarding the COVID-19 cases, the United States is seen as one of the countries which have the highest number of COVID-19 cases. The US has reported an excess number of coronavirus cases daily and unfortunately, the highest number of individuals have died through COVID-19 which is the disease caused by coronavirus SARS-COV-2. US has become one of the global epicenters for the COVID-19 outbreak when compared to other cases worldwide. New York which is the home to UN headquarters is considered as the biggest hit state of the country in these times. John Hopkins COVID-19 resource center has collected the data recently painting a bleak picture of people in North American countries.

US ON THE VERGE OF SPREAD OF THE DISEASE:

Today on April 13th, US cases number have risen to around 558,999 i.e. around 30% global cases since the pandemic began at the end of December 2019. The latest number of cases in the US is around 28,917 while the total number of cases in Europe is around 25,573. It is because of this reason that since February US is known as the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. The total number of deaths seen in the US is more than 22,000 people due to COVID-19 and with 6900 people in New York alone. The US country has shown 100,000 cases confirmed with several cases in New York State alone which shows that the United States is hard hit with this pandemic. During the last week, it was reported that Hart Island which is the famous burial ground in New York, it was seen that many people were buried in the last week since March due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

RISE IN DEATHS OF INDIVIDUALS:

According to Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, it is estimated that the rise in the number of daily deaths in the US alone as a whole nation is still behind although at country levels and state levels it might yet come. The estimated models value a total of around 61,545 deaths of individuals in August alone for this year but due to the large uncertainties along with the worst-case scenario pushes us around three times more deadly during this pandemic.

INITIAL DAYS OF PANDEMIC:

During the initial days of the pandemic, due to the slow response by the government, we have undergone so many deaths and infected people due to COVID-19 but recently rapid push by the FDA for COVID-19 tests has shown rising testing numbers. Forty states in the US have the order to stay-at-home in operation. However, a handful of rural states like Nebraska, Arkansas, North Dakota, South Dakota and, Iowa is still not having any active stay-at-home orders.

PREVENTIVE MEASURES:

It is therefore advised to all the people nationwide and globally to stay at home, maintain social distancing i.e. 6 feet or 2 meters apart, wash hands frequently for 20 seconds with hand wash or soap, sanitize regularly, avoid going out as much as possible and minimize the spread of this pandemic through your responsibility as an individual. However, the higher authorities do understand the fact that halting COVID-19 without a vaccine is impossible but at least we can try our best to slow down the progression of the disease. Luckily, many big companies are trying to manufacture the vaccine but it will need some time to develop the vaccine as the vaccine development undergoes several steps like animal trials, lab testing and human trials before the vaccine is available to the public. It is also of utmost importance to come up with the vaccine which is safe and highly effective against COVID-19 which is a deadly infectious disease to prevent the spread of the pandemic. So the immediate goal of the governments worldwide is to flatten the curve that indicates to slow down the spread of the disease and avoid any high number of cases that cannot be treated within the hospitals.

The healthcare workers also came out on the streets recently where they displayed posters claiming that they do not receive essential equipment due to which they might suffer from the disease and would be unable to treat the patients.
