Have you ever heard about any benefits of Electronic cigarettes? Well, Researchers are still confused. Electronic cigarette is a battery-operated device, used for inhalation rather than burning tobacco. The use of e-cigarettes is called vaping, and substances used in it are called vapors. These vapors include aerosols, which consist of nicotine and mixture of chemicals. The shape of electronic cigarettes is like a pen, a cigar, or tube-shaped. It can be recharged via a USB power charger.

Electronic cigarettes were first manufactured in 2013 in China; now, more than 250 brands are manufacturing and marketing e-cigarette. They are available in different fruity flavors, which lures people to purchase it. Today, millions of people are using it worldwide. In 2016, about 2.3 % of adults in the USA addicted to electronic cigarettes. Thirty-three deaths are confirmed in the united states in 2019 from the use of e-cigarettes. Approximately six people have died due to nicotine poisoning.

The confusing point is that people opt for E-Cigarettes as they want to quit smoking.  Research shows that about 58% of adults are using e-cigarette or vaping mods. Majority of the companies market their product with a tag line it helps in quitting smoking. Call it a trend or a fashion, but more and more people are trying vaping, especially those who have never smoked in their entire life.  The chances of regular cigarette use increase after using electronic cigarettes.                                                                      

Electronic cigarette and vape mods are highly injurious to health. Evidence suggests that e-cigarettes are more harmful than refined smoking. E-Cigarettes do contain nicotine, Nicotine is the main addictive part in different drugs. Nicotine based e-cigarettes are dangerous and can cause neurochemical, physiological, and behavioral changes. Nicotine affects the nervous, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, respiratory, immunological and gastrointestinal system. When nicotine enters our lungs, it is absorbed quickly. It reaches our brain in 8 seconds after being inhaled. It reaches the nervous system in 2-3 minutes and causes increased blood pressure in arteries and veins. It increases the heartbeat, constricts our arteries and stimulates the central nervous system.

The intake of nicotine varies from light to heavy dose. The low dosage of nicotine creates a condition of nausea, vomiting, eye irritation, and abdominal pain, whereas a high dose can result in coma or death. The brain development process is affected by this. Nicotine is harmful to pregnant women, as it affects fetal growth.

Latest findings suggest that, People who are using e-cigarette continuously, suffers from a lung disease called popcorn lungs. It is a severe and reversible disease characterized by the narrowing of airways of the respiratory system. The inhalation of e-cigarette liquid can trigger fatal poisoning.  

Most of people have reported injuries caused by e-cigarettes.. The batteries of e-cigarettes can cause fires and explosions. E-cigarettes are mostly equipped with lithium batteries. When these lithium batteries become too hot, they can explode. The effects include facial injuries, injuries to hands and arms, neck fractures, tooth loss, and can damage our respiratory tract leading to inhalation issues.

We are at a stage where we cannot term E-cigarettes as safe. The sale of E-cigarettes has been banned by different countries like brazil, Singapore, Uruguay and India. Researchers are still studying the effects of vaping and e-cigarettes but we have one confirmation so far. If you ever think about opting for Vape just to quit smoking, it won’t help much as Vaping is an addiction of its own.
